I will never pass up an opportunity to help out a colleague, and I’ll remember the days before I knew everything.— The Automattic Creed
If you’re reading this post, perhaps you just submitted your application to become a Happiness Engineer at Automattic — or maybe you’ve just received word that you’ve been accepted into the trial!
If you’re not familiar with the trial, it’s the final stage of the Happiness Engineer interview process, and you can read more about what it’s like here. There’s a lot to learn during the trial, and having resources to rely on during the process is key. In this post, we’ll talk a little bit about how our Happiness Engineer candidates are supported by full-time Automatticians during their trial. These folks are known as Trial Buddies, and they’re there to help you succeed during your trial.
Some of the things your Trial Buddy will help you with include the following:
- Answering any questions you have about training materials, internal processes, or working at Automattic
- Providing daily feedback on your work
- Being an ear to listen, if you want to talk to someone about how you’re feeling during the trial
- Guiding you with the information and resources needed to perform well during your trial
We reached out to a couple of Trial Buddies and asked them to share their thoughts about why they enjoy buddying trial HEs, what makes a good Trial Buddy, and why it’s such an important responsibility.
